Mrs. Utah 2009 - Karmel Larson
Karmel Larson was crowned Mrs. Utah United States on April 25, 2009, having never before entered a pageant. She was drawn to the program for the emphasis placed on promoting a platform. Her platform for this year is “Declaring Decency: Engaging Civic Leaders, Educators and Families in a T.E.A.M Effort to Stand For Decency.” With this platform she will work with a different population of Utah leaders each month to provide resources in the areas of Treatment, Education, Activism and Monitoring to promote decency in families, schools and our communities.
Karmel began her community involvement related to issues of decency in 2006 as President of the Utah Valley Chapter of American Mothers, Inc. Now on the Board of Directors, she promotes the White Ribbon Campaign and WRAP week throughout Utah, a national effort to “Fight Pornography and Stand For Decency”. In 2007 she was the American Mothers Honor Utah Young Mother of the Year.
She also serves as the Utah County Director for the Parents Television Council, the nation’s leading advocacy organization protecting children from all forms of violence, profanity and indecency in the media. Karmel serves as a round table member of the Utah Coalition Against Pornography and plans to continue heavily networking this year to further this cause. She also serves as the Utah County Liaison for Citizens For Families, promoting White Ribbon Week in Utah schools and as a PIC Committee member with the United Way (Partners For Infants and Children).
Mrs. Utah 2009 and her husband, Brigham Larson, reside in Provo, UT and are the parents of 4 children ages 6-Ben, 5-Abby, 3-Thayne and 1-Brig Jr. They home school their children and plan to include them as frequently as possible, serving together as a family to promote decency in Utah. Karmel is grateful for the strong family values held by Utah’s families and for the willingness of citizens to selflessly serve one another. She is excited to serve Utah and welcomes your invitation to speak and/or participate with your events and efforts to improve Utah.
